IQALUIT HUMANE SOCIETY ADOPTION POLICY STATEMENT
- Person(s) wanting to adopt must be 18 years of age or older.
- Animals must be 8 weeks or older to be adopted.
- No animal shall be adopted out as a gift for another person under any circumstances whatsoever.
- For public safety, animals that are deemed not to be adopted in Iqaluit by a City of Iqaluit Bylaw Officer will be not adopted out to people in Iqaluit.
- There is a mandatory 48 hour waiting period before all adoptions. The process could take longer depending on availability of society resources or information from the applicant, or both.
- The new owner and any Volunteer who is on the Adoptions Committee or the Adoptions Coordinator must be present at the adoption at which time all the necessary paperwork must have been completed and proof of registration with the City of Iqaluit dog tag is shown.
- Iqaluit Humane Society will match the new owner's requests with the best animal from the information provided on the application.
- The Iqaluit Humane Society reserves the right to refuse any application.
- The Adoptions Coordinator and the City of Iqaluit reserve the right to follow up on approved adoption applicants (new owners) in order to monitor their progress with their new pet and ensure that the Iqaluit Humane Society is effectively carrying out it’s adoption mandate within the City of Iqaluit.
