Warmest Greetings from the Iqaluit Humane Society!
Founded in August of 2007, we are a not-for-profit volunteer organization based in Iqaluit, Nunavut. Since April 2008, the Iqaluit Humane Society has been operating a small animal shelter out of a renovated one-bedroom apartment that has been generously loaned to us free of cost by the City of Iqaluit. The IHS functions solely on a limited base of dedicated volunteers who offer their time to care for these animals, which entails providing food, water, shelter, walks and limited medical attention.
In addition to assisting our community with its animal overpopulation issues, our aim is to also raise community awareness about the humane treatment and proper care of domestic animals. This is a very challenging task given our remote location and the limited animal care and resources available in Nunavut.
